Steve Tilden and Stephan Soihl

At Blackfish Gallery

Thu, May 03 to Sun, May 27

show

The days are lengthening and we transition from cold and dark into the light of spring and summer. From an ancient Greek perspective, the origin of the seasonal transitions is owed to the myth of Demeter and Persephone. Sculptor and painter Steve Tilden refreshes this myth in large, abstract compositions whose veiled narrative hints at the age-old story while conveying the essence of each season in texture and palette. Also on view are works in glass and steel focused on the myths of the Centaur and Daedalus.

Stephan Soihl's work is powered by curiosity that turns strongly towards physics and math. His creative process includes tiny motors and programming micro-controllers, but his elegant creations belie the complexity of their construction. Gently rotating and twirling at increasing or decreasing speeds, pausing periodically to strike a pose.
