I studied ceramics with David Gilhooly at University of California, Davis. UCD was the unofficial epi-center of the Funk School of Ceramics on the west coast of California as inspired by Robert Arneson. At UCD I also painted and studied drawing in classes taught by Professors Manual Neri and Roy deForest. In 1981 I established my first furniture design studio and then participated in the New Interiors Group Show at Mills College in California in 1987. The show included designers Phillip Agee, Bruce Tomb, Wendy Maruyama, John Randolph and Gail Friedel Smith. Lately, along with my furniture design I’ve been returning to ceramic sculpture. Mundane things such as a padlock and a pair of shoes inspire me. Working them into sculpture changes their status and introduces their shape into a fresh context. My newest designs are arc-welded sheet steel grand lighting fixtures inspired by atomic age office furniture.
